SONGWON's 1st Etihad Rail shipment a success

Ulsan, Korea – October 25, 2024 ─ Songwon Industrial Co., Ltd., is pleased to announce its shipping partnership with the UAE’s national railway operator, Etihad Rail.
On September 25th, 2024, Songwon Polysys Additives Sole Proprietorship LLC became the 1st company to ship with Etihad Rail from its plant in KIZAD (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi) to one of its major UAE customers in Al Ruwais Industrial City, located ca. 240 kilometers west of Abu Dhabi city. A special flag-off event to celebrate was organized by SONGWON’s Abu Dhabi team and attended by key persons of Rail Direct.
Launched in 2009 to improve the UAE’s transport infrastructure, Etihad Rail provides cost-effective solutions for transportation, distribution and logistics to businesses and industries across the region and links the 7 emirates with neighboring GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries. Stage 1 of the rail project was completed in 2016 and Stage 2, extending the network from the Saudi Arabian border across the UAE via Abu Dhabi including KIZAD and Khalifa Port, was finished in March 2023. Expected to achieve a 21% reduction in CO2 emissions (approx. 8.2 million tonnes) from road transport each year, Etihad Rail will significantly contribute to the UAE’s goal of reaching Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Furthermore, according to Etihad Rail, each train trip can take up to 300 trucks off the roads, reducing CO2 emissions and lowering transportation and road maintenance costs. This aligns perfectly with SONGWON’s strong commitment to seeking ways to increase sustainability and decrease emissions. The project’s success is due to the great efforts by our Abu Dhabi team, particularly our Planning and Logistics Manager, Aslam Meethale, who initiated and managed it, as well as our dedicated Customer Service team.”
